Reference images [Charles the Bold / Karel de Stoute]

In order to paint the portraits, I have looked at numerous pictures and miniatures. Below is a collection of some of my favourites. Note that this is a work  in progress. For the background information, see General information and VI. The Sword in the Stone.

The right wise man from the Columba altarpiece by Rogier van der Weyden:

John the apostle from the Last Judgement painting by Memling. The resemblance is striking but the apostle’s eyes are brown and brown was not one of the colours mentioned by sources.
